The Traiskirchen Refugee Camp
By now I'm pretty sure anyone reading this knows that Neal and I are currently in the throes of preparing for a three month missions trip to Austria early next month. We'll be joining the team at the Oasis Refugee Centre in Traiskirchen near Vienna. There's so much we could say about this, but you can read more about the role of Oasis in helping refugees at http://oasis.iteams.org/ (right click and 'open in new tab')
Its really important to us to keep in touch with everyone back home while we're away, so we're tackling our issues with technophobia head on by attempting to create our very first blog! The plan is to record some of our adventures here, but most importantly to keep you all up to date with prayer requests and praise reports as they occur.
So there are just 11 days left until we fly to Vienna on 5th August, and already there have been many wonderful answers to prayer. God has provided practical help in the form of a local gardener who's offered to 'pop around' every week or so to keep the garden tidy; and another lovely local couple have agreed to be key-holders, keeping an eye on the house for us, and checking our incoming mail.
Last week we were introduced to a wonderful retired couple who were missionaries in North Africa for many years and are fluent Arabic speakers. They've given us lots of help in learning a few basic Christian phases in Arabic, and several of our friends at Corsham Baptist Church have been helping us to learn some basic German too.
Its been such a blessing to have your encouragement and support in the midst of all the 'busyness' of packing and prep. We're both excited and very humbled to be given such an amazing opportunity to share the love of Jesus with those who through no fault of their own have lost pretty much everything they own.
So watch this space folks ..... and we'll do our best to keep future blogs short, to the point and (hopefully) interesting!
with our love
Neal & Lesley
Romans 10:14-15 New Living Translation (NLT)
14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?
